A Peep Into Our Curriculum
Pre-primary curriculum

At HPS, Hamirpur in Lkg and Ukg we follow a well planned curriculum. Direct sensory experience, purposeful play, active learning by doing, moving, talking, manipulating, exploring and experimenting are some of the various strategies involved. This program has been carefully incorporated to provide the best of learning experiences to young learners. The areas of learning involved are:

The Curriculum is flexible and enables children to acquire knowledge, skills, concepts and attitudes in a meaningful way. It ensures that the entire process of development and learning takes place in a happy, friendly and caring environment where each child is valued as an individual and feels safe and secure.

Primary Curriculum

Primary Deptt. is dedicated towards providing a challenging learning environment. The school is a center of inquiry, creativity and joyful learning, where students from different social backgrounds come together to learn, dream and grow. HPSoffers a coherent and integrated curriculum which prepares students for a smooth transition to the middle school years.

The Classroom ACTIVITIES are designed in such a way so as to facilitate the young mind to observe, explore and learn about their immediate environment and the distant surroundings.The use of various RESOURCES– real objects, manipulative toys, puzzles, pictures, flash cards etc arouses the curiosity of children thereby acting as a facilitator in developing various skills.The key ingredients of the TEACHING METHODOLOGY include story narration, picture reading, puppet show, rhyme recitation, role play, art and craft, free illustration along with many other learner centric media.

The following STRATEGIES are involved to make teaching an everlasting learning experience:
  • Problem solving- Group activities that encourage children to focus on a topic and contribute ideas to explore what they know about the topic.
  • Brainstorming- - Group activities where real life situations are taken to sensitize children on how to deal with various situations in life.
  • Morning message- Requires teachers to write messages on board. It helps children to recognize text. This exercise teaches children that reading and writing go together.
  • Sharing circle- Group activities which help children to share their thoughts. At the same time it promotes active listening as well.
  • Sharing circle- Plays a vital role in oral language development and builds confidence, where children get an opportunity to talk about familiar objects.
  • Co-operative learning- Helps children to socialise and work together in a group to accomplish a common task. This develops a better relationship among children and also boosts their confidence and adds to their self esteem.
Assessment System

Grade LKG & UKG : Assessment of the Early Years will be done on the basis of observation of their work habits and subject skills.

Monthly profiles will be discussed at the end of each term. Students will be graded on a continuous scale highlighting their strengths.

Grade : I to V
The distribution of marks will be in the following format:
Formative Assessment 30%
Summative Assessment I 35%
Summative Assessment II 35%
Final Assessment 100%
Students of Grades I to V will have two Term Assessments and Three Formative Assessments

Internal Assessments :

To ensure life long skills in note book work such as neatness, completion and timely submission of work along with subject skills, internal assessment has been introduced for Classes I to X. The student’s performance will be evaluated on a continuous basis rather than only through exams. The subject skill grade along with the work habit grade will count towards the overall grade awarded to the student.

Weekly Assessment :

Weekly assessment marks will be considered for assessment at the end of the year. This is in keeping with the school policy, which stresses on continuous and comprehensive assessment during the academic year. There will be 3 cycles of weekly assessment for all classes.

  1. The weekly assessment is as important as the summative assessment and it is mandatory for all students to appear for the same.
  2. Exemption is granted by the school for a genuine medical problem for which a medical certificate should be produced within two days of the missed weekly assessment.
  3. In the above case the average of the remaining assessments will be considered.
  4. However, every student must take a minimum of two weekly assessments in each subject.
